A lot of people are still on the learning curve for WordPress, so I would like to clear some myths that exist in the blogosphere about WordPress.

1. WordPress is a Website Builder.

No Sherlock, WordPress is a blogging CMS and that is a fact. Although, there are themes and plugins which will make your WordPress blog look like a website.

2. I can use all the plugins in the world and they will rise my WordPress blog to fame.

I am sorry to say but you are mistaken if you think so. WordPress is a blogger’s nightmare when it comes to CPU usage. It can bring any kind of server (even enterprise ones) to its knees and most of the plugins are not optimized for their SQL queries. Plugins are notorious for causing high CPU usage on servers. So, be careful on what and how many plugins you activate on your blog.

3. WordPress is limited to WordPress.com

Many new users think what WordPress can only be used if they have an account on WordPress.com. It’s not so. Yes, WordPress.com offers free blogs to people who do not have hosting or a domain name but on the other hand, WordPress.org offers WordPress in the form of a software that can be downloaded and installed either locally (if you are running a server) or on your own hosting if you have any.

4. I can use blogger templates on WordPress and vice versa.

No. You cannot do that because coding for both kind of templates differs in many ways. Although, there are people who convert templates from one platform to another.

5. WordPress is only for hobby blogs.

Please search a little more, and you will find that a heap of professional bloggers are using WordPress as their blogging platform.

6. It’s easy for WordPress blogs to get hacked.

No. Just update your WordPress installation to the latest one and keep a track on the released security fixes. WordPress is as secure as any other normal website.

7. WordPress has little or no documentation.

Not true. If you look at http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page, you will find almost everything that you ever needed to know about WordPress. Also, if you search the Internet, you can find a heap of information readily available.

8. What… Only 10 widgets to use on my sidebars??

Please lookup Google.com and you will find lots of plugins that extend this functionality and allow you unlimited widgets on your sidebars. For example, this one :- http://thephppro.com/plugins/tppSidebarPageSections/

9. Where do I buy WordPress from?

Good question. I wish someone could charge you for asking that, but WordPress is a free software.

Today Google is the best search engine and other service providers around the world. Today my friend pass me an e-mail describing ten things that you might not know about Google.

The name Google is a spelling error. The founders of the site, Larry page and Sergey Brin, thought they were going for ‘Googol.’ Googol is the mathematical term for 1 followed by 100 zeros. The term was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, Mathematics and the Imagination by Kasner and James Newman.
Google’s play on the term reflects the company’s mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web. Initially, Larry and Sergey Brin called their search engine BackRub, named for its analysis of the of the web’s “back links.” The search for a new name began in 1997, with Larry and his officemates starting a hunt for a number of possible new names for the rapidly improving search technology.

The reason the Google page is so bare is because the founder didn’t know HTML and just wanted a quick interface. Due to the sparseness of the homepage, in early user tests they noted people just kept sitting staring at the screen, waiting for the rest to appear. To solve the particular problem theGoogle Copyright message was inserted to act as an end of page marker.

Google started as a research project by Larry page and Sergey Brin when they were 24 and 23 years respectively. Google’s mission statement is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. The company’s first office was in a garage, in Menlo Park, California. Google’s first employee was Craig Silverstein, now Google’s director of technology. The basis of Google’s search technology is called PageRank that assigns an “importance” value to each page on the web and gives it a rank to determine how useful it is. However, that is not why it is called PageRank. It is actually named afterGoogle co-founder Larry Page.

Google receives about 20 million search queries each day from every part of the world, including Antarctica and Vatican. You can have theGoogle homepage set up in as many as 116 different languages — including Urdu, Latin, Cambodia, Tonga, and Yoruba. In fact, Google has the largest network of translators in the world.

In the earliest stage of Google, there was no submit button, rather the Enter key needed to be pressed.Google has banned computer-generated search requests, which can sop up substantial system resources and help unscrupulous marketers manipulate its search rankings.

The Google’s free web mail service Gmail was used internally for nearly two years prior to launch to the public. The researchers found out six types of email users, and Gmail has been designed to accommodate these six.The free e-mail service recently changed its name for new UK users. Following a trademark dispute with a London-based Independent International Investment Research, the mail account has been renamed Google Mail.

It would take 5,707 years for a person to search Google’s 3 billion pages. The Google software does it in 0.5 seconds.Google Groups comprises more than 845 million Usenet messages, which is the world’s largest collection of messages or the equivalent of more than a terabyte of human conversation.

The logos that appear on the Google homepage during noteworthy days and dates and important events are called Google Doodle. The company has also created an online museum where it has all the logos it has put on various occasions so far.Dennis Hwang, a Korean computer artist in the United States, is the guy behind these witty Doodles. Hwang has been drawing the face ofGoogle for over two years.

You have heard of Google Earth , but not many know there is a site called Google Moon, which maps the Lunar surface.Google Moon is an extension of Google Maps and Google Earth that, courtesy of NASA imagery, enables you to surf the Moon’s surface and check out the exact spots that the Apollo astronauts made their landings

Keyhole, the satellite imaging company that Google acquired in October 2004 was funded by CIA.Keyhole’s technology runs Google’s popular program Google Earth that allows users to quickly view stored satellite images from all around the world.

IT services and solutions provider Unisys Corporation has said it will slash as many as 1,300 jobs across the world and plans to forgo any salary hike next year in most of the countries where the company operates.

“The headcount reductions have begun and will continue into 2009… the company also plans to forgo 2009 salary increases in most of the company’s markets,” Unisys Corporation said in a statement.

Unisys said that it is exploring a wide range of cost-reduction options and that actions currently underway are expected to reduce its annual cost structure by more than USD 225 million.

The cost-reduction actions –led by new Unisys Chairman and CEO Ed Coleman — are part of an overall programme to simplify the company’s business structure, concentrate its resources more effectively and drive improved market success and profitability, Unisys added.

The initial cost-reduction actions are focused on reducing selling, general and administrative (SGandA) expenses and controlling or reducing labor costs across the board.

“The company plans to reduce its spending on third-party expenses, facility consolidations, head-count reductions and a suspension of company matching contributions to the US 401(k) plan, which had been costing about USD 50 million annually,” the statement added.

New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) Rumours are rife that Rahul Mahajan, one of the strongest contenders on reality show ‘Bigg Boss’, has been asked to leave after he refused to apologise for fleeing the house with three other inmates.

The rumour came to surface Tuesday morning, after Rahul jumped out of the “Bigg Boss” house along with the other existing participants – Raja Chaudhary, Zulfi Syed and Ashutosh Kaushik. It was shown on Monday’s episode.

The four men requested “Bigg Boss” organisers to send them a pre-cooked or ready-to-eat meal. When their request wasn’t met, they protested by escaping from the “Bigg Boss” house.

The prime rule of the ‘Bigg Boss’ house is that no contestant can leave the house and the four contestants broke that rule. They protested when just six days before the grand finale where the winner will get prize money of Rs.10 million.

According to television reports, while the others apologised for breaking the rule, Rahul said that he won’t say sorry because he wasn’t guilty for what he did. As a result he was asked to leave the show.

As of now, the channel is not ready to confirm or deny the news. A spokesperson of Endemol India, the production house of the reality show, said that an official press statement would be released later in the day.

Former participant Monica Bedi, who was evicted out of the show last week, told IANS: “I believe Rahul has been evicted, but I am not 100 percent sure as I have only heard it from the media. I have not yet been told by the production house or any reliable source.”

Monica, who shared a close relationship with Rahul on the show, conjectured that the four men might have jumped off the wall due to mental pressure and lack of food.

“Rahul had lost almost eight kilograms till I was there. It is very tough to stay there without food. So I am sure they tried to flee to get something to eat. Otherwise, Rahul is such a patient person,” she said.

It has been more than three months now since these men were locked inside the “Bigg Boss” house under 24-hour camera surveillance.

THE DONS AND THE DIEN OF BIGG BOSS HOUSE SEASON 2

The best ones in the Bigg Boss 2 house have gone. They are Debojit Saha, Ketki Dave, Eshaan. Qureshi. The beauty and the charm of Bigg Boss Season 2 has been wiped off from the house by the Terror People Raja Choudhary, Rahul Mahajan, Zulfi and Monica. Now the two people who have been nominated by the terror people are Diana and Ashutosh.

Diana Hayden is very dignified graceful in all her manners and etiquettes. She thinks and talks very rationally. She talks no nonsense in the house. Diana has a very friendly relation with Ashutosh and treats Ashutosh as her younger friend there is absolutely no cheap malicious relationship between Diana Hayden and Ashutosh. Rahul Mahajan the drug Addict and Monica have a cheap, dirty, filthy, malicious relationship with both of them having their tainted, filthy, dirty past with all her blood tainted marriage to Abu Salem. Living with Abu Salem as his wife for many, many years. Monica’s all love letters written to Abu Salem have been made public by Star News Channel. Monica’s denial of a marriage to Abu Salem is a big fraud and a big farce.

Monica is a woman to hang on or to go with any man when she sees the man is flooded and flushed with money. She doesn’t care to know the money that the man has are stained with blood or they are clean money. Monica has only one thing in her mind to enjoy life as much as possible with the man even if he is an underworld Don or a traitor. Because she does not have to cook. She does not have to clean she does not have to do any work but enjoy. Monica was doing the same in the bigg boss house season 2. She has never been seen in the bigg boss house season 2 either cooking or washing the utensils. Monica just poses to be a glamour bimbo.

Rahul Mahajan’s and Monica’s relationship are cheap, dirty, filthy and malicious. Monica had picked up a deliberate argument with Diana sum days ago with her pig brain and at the end of the argument she was the biggest dumb fool of herself because Diana Hayden gave Monica the best of her school thoughts. In the beginning Monica had said in the bigg boss house season 2 that “Mere Mata Pita Ek Sharmanak Jeevan Jee Rahain hai Meri veajahase. Meine jaanbujhke nahi kiya mujche se ho gaya” (a marriage to Abu Salem and living with Abu Salem as his wife) how could Monica Say this. Monica is not a Doodh Peeti Bacchi. She is a grown up adult and she cannot escape her life by just saying this. There are cases in the court of law going against her even now. How could the producers of bigg boss seasion 2 approach her and call her in the house of bigg boss season 2. Had it been America or UK she would never have been called but would be dumped in the Garbage. But these things are possible only in a country like India. We are the biggest fools in the world. Yesterday (4th Nov. 2008) another terrorist flouted all the norms and rules in the house because of a simple tiff with Sambhavna. He kicked the decorative vase from the center table of the living room and broke it into pieces. He also kicked many other decorative things in the living area broke them into pieces. He threw water on the bed of Sambhavna and wet the bed completely on which Sambhavna slept. He spat water from the mouth on the same bed again and again. What will you say for all this terror tactics of Raja Choudhary. I ask one and all. Season 2 Bigg Boss, he was silent spectator to all these terror tactics of Raja Choudhary. A coward, brainless fool Bigg Boss of Season 2 called Raja Choudhary to the confession room and asked him “Raja aap bigg boss kuch kehena chaate hein?” Raja Choudhary the terrorist said all lies, and lies nothing but lies. Raja Choudhary the terrorist did not speak even a word of flouting the rules and norms by kicking the flower vase that was kept on the center table which later broke into pieces and other decorative items kicking them all around. The coward brainless fool bigg boss2 did not even bother to ask him about his rude terror behaviour and did not punish him which the coward brainless fool should have done immediately by nominating Raja Choudhary & unconditionally kicking him out, throwing him out and evicting him out from the house of bigg boss 2. On the contrary the coward brainless fool bigg boss 2 called Sambhavna and began to give her big sermons in a harsh rude tone. Had it been the bigg brother in UK the bigg brother would have unconditionally nominated the terror Raja Choudhary and thrown him out of bigg boss house. This is India and we are fools and therefore everybody and everyone can get away. Even Monica (Mrs. Don Abu Salem’s Wife) would never have been called to the house of bigg boss had it been America or UK.

Most of the Inmates (housemates) of the bigg boss house 2 are non vegetarian. They stuff their stomach with fish, meat, chicken, eggs and so on and there may be one or two who are non-vegetarian. Therefore the non-vegetarian like to have poha in the morning for breakfast while when poha is in plenty in the bigg boss house season 2 everybody can have poha for breakfast together. But when poha is less it can be made for one or two people who are vegetarian. Zulfi the – chaddi man, Raja Choudhary – the terrorist, Rahul Mahajan – the drug addict and Monica – Mrs. Don made a big issue of poha one morning in fact they are eating the best of the things in the house of bigg boss 2. But Monica, Mrs. Don forgot that in jail she used to have only one dry sukhi roti afternoon and night. But after coming to bigg boss house season 2 it was a dream come to Monica Mrs. – Don. Her second entry into the house of bigg boss 2 through wild card. Mrs Don tried to become more and more cunning. Mrs. Don to instigate Zulfi the chaddi man, Rahul the drug addict and Raja choudhary the terror man against Diana because Monica Mrs. Don was very, very jealous of her. Mrs. Don does not have the sensibility the gracefulness, the manners and etiquettes of Diana Hayden. Mrs. Don has to take a hundred births to be like Diana Hayden.

Instead of Diana and Ashutosh Season 2 Bigg Boss must immediately nominate Raja Choudhary and throw him out, evict him out from the house this Friday. I call upon all viewers do not waste your money by sending sms for Diana Hayden and Ashutosh. There must be no votes and sms’s sent for Diana Hayden and Ashutosh this week. It must be the terrorist Raja Choudhary who should be evicted from the house of bigg boss season 2 this Friday. If season 2 bigg boss is fair, impartial he will take the bold step of evicting Raja Choudhary from the house. But if season 2 bigg boss is coward, a brainless fool and a lame duck then he is going to protect the terrorist Raja Choudhary. No one deserves to win in the bigg boss house seaon 2. Neither the mad hatter drug addict Rahul Mahajan nor Zulfi whose all ads of (chaddis) have been banned on television because zulfi has done the maximum ads of chaddis and they have all been banned. Last but not the least the terrorist Raja Choudhary None of them deserves to win and Monica – Mrs. Don has to be dumped in the garbage.

In bigg boss season 1 Rahul Roy was the winner and a very good person. A very good man who was throughout very respectful towards every body had won the season 1 was a good win. But this time Endemol and the producers take your money back home because no one deserves to win I repeat again and again. Other wise call back all the three Debojit, ketki Dave, Eshaan Qureshi and let one of the good person win. I repeat once again to all my viewers and friends of bigg boss season 2 do not waste your money by sending sms’s either for Diana Hayden or Ashutosh let both of them be in the house of bigg boss season 2. Send sms type (Raja) and send it 56882 to evict the terrorist Raja Choudhary out of the bigg boss house season 2. This Friday 07/11/08. this is from the good citizens forum of India. We as good citizens should take the bold step of teaching a lesson to the all the terrorist in the bigg boss house season 2 if season 2 bigg boss cannot teach them. Because he is nothing but a coward, a brainless fool who cannot take the right decision. The last thing which can be said is that KPMG and BIGG BOSS SEASON 2 together rig and manipulate the SMS’s and it’s by their choice people are evicted.

HONG KONG, Oct 17 (Reuters) – Asian shares rose on Friday after encouraging earnings signals from technology firms such as IBM and a slowly improving tone in beleaguered short-term money markets helped ease concerns about a global recession.

Asian stocks posted their first weekly gain in seven, with advances in the last trading day underpinned by a rally on Wall Street on Thursday that sent the Dow Jones industrial average up more than 4 percent.

European shares were set to surge, with major indexes such as Britain’s FTSE 100 seen up by more than 4-5 percent.

Oil prices rose nearly $3 a barrel, helped by the equity gains and growing expectations for an OPEC production cut following a tumble in crude.

But jitters remain after a volatile week that saw global stock markets rally and slump on alternative days amid signals of a potentially deep economic slowdown worldwide.

The dollar sagged against the euro, but the U.S. currency held steady against the yen.

“There’s still nervousness in the market about the real economy, but in terms of valuations the price is good right now,” said Nagayuki Yamagishi, a strategist at Mitsubishi UFJ Securities in Japan.

“The economic problems are the main theme of the market right now and everybody knows this, so rises will be limited.”

The MSCI index of Asia-Pacific stocks outside Japan was up 0.6 percent at 0630 GMT, after slumping 8 percent the previous session.

The index had gained around 1 percent for the week as of early afternoon, its first weekly gain since the end of August.

Friday’s tone was helped by some encouraging earnings signals. International Business Machines Corp (IBM) said on Thursday it expects to meet long-term profit forecasts, partly due to continued growth in emerging markets.

Meanwhile, U.S. firms such as Internet search leader Google Inc and chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc posted results after U.S. market hours that beat expectations.

On the credit front, recent unprecedented measures by central banks to inject liquidity into the financial system appeared to be bearing some fruit.

U.S. dollar short-term funding costs eased for the fourth day in Asia, though stress remained in several local markets due to heightened counterparty and term risks.

But analysts warned investors would be unlikely to steer their attention from concerns over the global economy.

“The focus of the market is now shifting gradually to the weakness of the real economy,” said Minoru Shioiri, chief manager of forex trading at Mitsubishi UFJ Securities.

Data on Thursday showed U.S. industrial output posted its biggest drop since 1974 in September, while a regional factory index slumped and labour markets showed softness.

Japan’s Nikkei average rose 2.8 percent, clawing back after falling 11.4 percent on Thursday in its biggest loss since the 1987 crash.

Singapore stocks rose 0.5 percent, while Shanghai’s main index advanced 1 percent.

But other major indexes in the region fell. Stocks in South Korea and Taiwan dropped more than 2 percent each. Australian stocks lost 1 percent, India’s benchmark index slipped 0.5 percent, while Hong Kong shares were flat.

OIL RALLY

The gains in equity markets, however tentative, bolstered oil prices. U.S. crude futures for November delivery rose $2.9 to $72.79 a barrel, reversing a decline of more than 6 percent during U.S. trade on Thursday.

Base metal prices also rallied, with London Metal Exchange copper, zinc and lead all up sharply percent in Asian trade.

In currency markets, although the dollar sagged against the euro it held flat near the yen in choppy trade as some investors remained concerned about a global recession.

“Fears about financial institutions going under have eased since the Group of Seven meeting last week as governments showed readiness to pump in public funds,” said Takahide Nagasaki, chief forex strategist at Daiwa Securities SMBC.

“The easing of such fears is slowly reversing a previously seen flight to safety into such currencies as the yen,” Nagasaki said.

The euro was up 0.4 percent from late Thursday New York trade at 1.3505, while the dollar held steady against the yen at 101.51.

MUMBAI (Reuters) – Kingfisher Airlines, India’s No 2 private carrier is in talks with state-run oil firms to repay dues in a ‘phased’ manner, a senior official of UB Group said Friday.

India’s Oil Secretary R.S. Pandey said on Thursday some domestic airlines, including Kingfisher, had defaulted on jet fuel payments.

“We are discussing with Oil PSUs to repay in a phased manner..we want to take a little more extended credit,” said Ravi Nedungadi, Chief Financial Officer of UB Group, which holds a controlling stake in the airline.

“We are discussing the timeline (for repayment), it would be inappropriate to reveal any more, but there is an understanding developing on both sides,” he added.

He added that getting funds from banks was becoming a major problem for the airline industry as a whole.

“Every company is caught in a bind because the banking sector is unable to lend even if they are willing to. They just don’t have the liquidity. What option do we have?,” he said

The real solution would be to bring ATF prices down, he said.

ATF, or aviation turbine fuel make up between 30 and 45 percent of an airline’s operating cost. In August, a kilo-litre of ATF cost 73,600 rupees in Mumbai, compared with 46,500 rupees equivalent in Singapore.

Its code sharing agreement with top private carrier Jet Airways will yield cost benefits in another month or two, Nedungadi said.

Kingfisher and Jet this week set up an alliance to cut costs through code sharing as well as sharing of ticketing, ground services, fuel management and crew training and utilisation.

Both airlines will save about 15 billion rupees annually, Kingfisher Chairman Vijay Mallya had said.

Kingfisher and Jet are also planning to return 14 narrow bodied leased aircraft in an attempt to rationalize its fleet, he said, adding that the exercise was not yet complete.

“The decision has not been finalised, the 14 aircraft we are planning to return is more of a target,” he said, adding that the carriers to be returned would be A-320s and Boeing-737s.

“The industry on the whole has to contract and become more efficient, but for that we have to tide through this current phase which is very challenging,” he added.

The alliance between Jet and Kingfisher would not result in a monopoly in the airline industry or hurt discount carriers, Nedungadi said.

“Low cost carriers are offering a completely different product. The problem is where you try to offer a full service product at the cost of a no-frills one,” he said.

Shares of Kingfisher Airlines were up 5.07 percent at 46.60 rupees in a flat Mumbai market.

MUMBAI (Reuters) – India’s leading private carrier Jet Airways has reinstated 800 sacked flight attendants, its chief said on Thursday, following protests in cities and demands for a probe by politicians.

Chairman Naresh Goyal told a news conference in Mumbai that reinstating the sacked employees was his personal decision.

“I apologise for all the agony you went through,” Goyal said. “The management will have to understand sometimes in a family there are disagreements but the father of the family decides.”

Earlier, Jet Airways said it would lay off 1,100 staff in the next few days on top of the 800 flight attendants already sacked this week as part of efforts to cope with slowing demand, high fuel prices and the global credit crunch.

The job losses and protests have struck in an industry at the heart of India’s economic modernisation, with millions of middle-class Indians taking to the skies and carriers employing thousands of young men and women.

The airlines asked the government to bail them out but so far it has not acted.

The employees, who were mostly on contract or probation, found support from local party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, which local media said was in talks with Jet officials for employees from the state to be reinstated.

MORE LAYOFFS

Labour laws that make it hard to lay off employees have led to a policy of hiring more contract workers in India, which has caused protests at the Indian units of Toyota Motor Corp and Honda Motor Co in recent years.

Last month, sacked employees beat to death the India head of an Italian industrial manufacturing company near Delhi.

The Indian aviation industry, which had grown at an average annual pace of more than 25 percent in the past few years in a booming economy, is forecast to post combined losses of nearly $2 billion in the year to March 2009.

Jet Airways, which has said it expects to break even in the full year to March 2010, has struggled to raise money, with the turbulent market delaying a planned $400 million rights issue as well as a stake sale by founder Goyal.

Jet, which on Monday announced a code-sharing alliance with No. 2 carrier Kingfisher Airlines to cut costs, has put its international expansion plans on hold and trimmed capacity.

Washington, Oct 17 (IANS) Describing the India-US civil nuclear deal as a ‘game-changing’ success story, a senior Republican leader has advised the next US president that American efforts to shape the world may not succeed fully without India.

‘The bottom line is that American efforts to shape the world are unlikely to succeed fully without the cooperation of India,’ said Senator Dick Lugar Wednesday adding, ‘Its sheer size ensures that it will have an enormous impact on the global economy.’

The top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was laying out at the National Defence University what was described as ‘a new foreign policy approach for the next president focusing on energy security, trade, climate change, and pro-active American leadership.’

‘With patient investments in the building blocks of national security and attention to long term strategic opportunities, the United States will thrive in this century as we did in the last,’ he told Republican nominee John McCain and his Democratic rival Barack Obama.

Amplifying this dynamic, Lugar cited the India nuclear deal as a case ‘in which our government has succeeded in implementing a game-changing policy that opens up new economic and strategic opportunities that may benefit our diplomacy for decades.’

‘By far the most forward looking foreign policy achievement of the current administration was the recent nuclear agreement with India, which could free the US-Indian relationship from decades of contentiousness,’ he said.

‘The benefits of this pact are designed to be a lasting incentive for India to abstain from further nuclear weapons tests and to cooperate closely with the United States in stopping proliferation,’ Lugar said.

‘But the strategic benefits of the relationship extend far beyond the nuclear agenda,’ added the lawmaker who as then chairman of the Senate panel played a key role in crafting the US enabling law, the Hyde Act.

‘We have already received some benefits from this engagement,’ said Lugar suggesting, ‘India is taking a more positive outlook toward the US military presence in Afghanistan than it did originally.’

‘It supported our efforts to constrain Iran’s nuclear programme through its votes in the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Board of Governors in 2005 and 2006,’ he said. ‘India has also taken a more supportive attitude toward the Proliferation Security Initiative, though it has thus far declined to join.’

‘The bottom line is that American efforts to shape the world are unlikely to succeed fully without the cooperation of India. Its sheer size ensures that it will have an enormous impact on the global economy,’ Lugar said.

The nuclear deal gives the US a better chance to cooperate with the Indians on limiting carbon emissions, he said. ‘We have a strong interest in expanding energy cooperation with India to develop new technologies, cut green house gas emissions, and prepare for declining global fossil fuel reserves.’

‘The United States’ own energy problems will be exacerbated if we do not forge energy partnerships with India, China, and other nations experiencing rapid economic growth,’ said Lugar.

The Indiana senator said the agreement also improves US ‘access to the burgeoning information technology industry in India and strengthens our position related to strategic issues pertaining to China, on which India is naturally predisposed to be with us.’

‘A closer relationship with India, gives us more diplomatic leverage in preventing flare-ups of the conflict between India and Pakistan,’ Lugar said suggesting ‘Further down the road, it is reasonable to expect greater conventional military cooperation with the Indians as they buy more of our weapons.’

‘This could be critical to areas of joint interest, such as counter-terrorism and the suppression of piracy,’ the lawmaker said adding, ‘With a well-educated middle class that is larger than the entire US population, India can be an anchor of stability in Asia and a centre of economic growth.’

‘By concluding this pact, the US has embraced a long-term outlook that will give us new diplomatic options,’ Lugar said describing it as ‘opportunity to build a strategic partnership with a nation that shares our democratic values and will exert increasing influence on the world stage.’
