Come together against terrorism
Terror attacks are no longer occasional happenings, they are slowly trying to become a part of life. This development has to be curbed or very soon we will be a free country with a lot of scared people imprisoned in their houses. The form of terrorism that is being played out in India is the most dangerous type and everybody needs to come together to quell it.
Government: - Government has to form an internal security force which is exclusively dedicated to detecting and preventing terrorist activities. Despite their corrupt ways, it is no secret that the Cops across this country are underpaid. A cop especially at the level of a beat constable should be paid enough and well looked after to enable him to be honest. Major cities must have electronic eyes swamping the landscape of prominent places. These will require huge investments and large expenditure. It is a joke that only 3.5 crore tax returns are filed in our country and that 90% of them are salaried class. A massive drive is required to unearth black money and tax offenders. Farmers cultivating cash crops have to be brought into the tax bracket. The additional revenue generated should be used for fighting terrorism.
The Government must to give up its misguided concept of secularism. There should be one marriage law for all religions. The police should be authorized to check any religious place at any time. Everybody should be free to promulgate their religion but not at the cost of ridiculing others. Any talk against the unity of the country should not be tolerated and such speakers should be sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment. POTA or a more severe act should be brought back to put the fear of God into the minds of potential terrorists. Inability to execute a person responsible for attack on the Parliament, even years after he committed the crime projects to the terrorists that we are sitting ducks. Terrorists respect neither religion nor human rights and they deserve to be dealt with accordingly. This should be enshrined in our Constitution if required be. I don’t like him but we require a Home Minister like Narendra Modi.
Citizen: - Most of us are law abiding it is just that we should learn not to get carried away by the talks of neither the green nor saffron brigade. These people don’t mean anything except to set the country on fire and make hay out of it. We should be vigilant of our surroundings and atleast drop an anonymous letter to the cops if we come across some suspicious elements in our locality. Before we let our houses to unknown person, we should do the checks prescribed by the cops and also keep them informed about the tenant whereabouts. We should educate our children about the threat of terrorism. Public celebration of any festival should be done in an orderly manner and after obtaining the permission/co-operation of the Police. We should ban business dealings with all those traders who don’t give a bill for our purchase because every pie of tax earned is essential to fight the war on terror.
Religious leaders: Irrespective of which religion they belong to, a close watch on every moment of theirs should be maintained. Anybody claiming himself to be a religious leader has to register himself with the nearest police station. Their Mutts/Monastries/Madrasas should be open for police inspection at reasonable hours of the day. Criticizing other religions and inciting religious violence through talks/action should be considered as acts punishable with imprisonment.
Media: There should be a curb on media covering any terrorist attack. I am not against broadcasting live pictures but there should be some restriction on which areas of blast they are allowed into least they should tamper with evidence intentionally or otherwise. The media should realize that the craze for breaking news should not rule in case of terrorist attacks. In the recent Delhi bomb blast, the picture of the 11 year old boy who identified the attackers has been splashed across TV channels and newspapers. Who will be responsible for the security of his life? If such trigger happy journalism prevails, people who are witness to terrorist attacks will be circumspect to assist the police.
Terrorism has to be fought with all the might we have. All the 125 crore soul, brain, heart, eyes and limbs have to fight this devil. Maybe this is the ideal situation to find answer for the famous question “Don’t ask what the country has done for you; ask what you have done for the country?”
