Money

While visiting Canada from the U.S., when I handle Canadian money it seems quite strange as if it were money from the game, Monopoly. That thought inspired today’s poem.

Monopoly Money

Money

by Harry Kottler

When you’re in another country

The money there seems just for play.

Like money used in the game, Monopoly,

You’re not sad when it goes away.

You’re not sad when you have to spend it.

You’re not sad when you go to jail.

You’re not sad that you have to tend it.

When you lose it, you do not wail.

Actually, all money is just play money.

Actually, all money is just on loan.

Actually, it is very funny

India’s Olympic gold medal and role of administrators and coaches

Abhinav Bindra has proved that Indians are definitely capable of performing well in Olympics and win gold medals for the country. But we can win many more gold medals  provided the selection of sportspersons is done fairly and without  favouritism. The main reason for the poor performance is the wrong selection by the inept selectors and administrators of the sports. How can politicians and beurocrats who have no achievement to show in the sports world  be  trusted to run the sports bodies? Favouritism and prejudice are the part of Indian culture right from the olden times. Remember how Guru Dronacharya favoured More >

Music in Sama Veda

Music in Sama Veda

Following my post the state of music in Ramayana, there was some discussion about Sama and its relation to music. I was asked to say a little more about the music in Sama Veda; hence this post.

1. Sama Veda samhita

1.1. Sama Veda is linked to music through yajna. It was customary to invoke and invite deities by singing their hymns; and to recite the mantras while the rituals were being performed. Those who sang were designated: Udgatru .They selected those riks (mantras) from Rig Veda that could be sung.  And, they compiled such selection into a More >

Mother’s Having a Breakdown

Mother’s Having a Breakdown

My mother’s having a breakdown;

it happens every day.

She gives the children a shakedown;

one of us will have to pay.

We’re locked up in a bedroom;

we’ll be there ‘til we decide

which one of us will agree to

confess some petty crime.

Mother’s got us under arrest, so

we’re under a lot of stress.

It makes matters worse to protest, so

one of us must confess.

We’re prisoners in a lockdown

for what we did or didn’t do.

Someone’s in for a takedown;

it’s down to me or you.

My mother’s favorite movie

is “The Caine Mutiny”;

she thinks that she’s a Captain at sea

with a crew in conspiracy.

Think Positive

One of my friend suggested me that always be positive. So here is my some thoughts, Please spend few minutes to read it.

Think Positive If you want to get somewhere, you have to know where you want to go and how to get there. Then never, never, never give up.

The secret of life isn’t what happens to you, but what you do with what happens to you.

Help other people to cope with their problems and your own will be easier to cope with.

Never use the word impossible seriously again. Toss it into the verbal wastebasket.

Self-trust is the first secret More >

Sports & People

1 Billion Plus Indians not even 2 gold medals in the Beijing olympics. This is a serious statement we give to the world. It also emphasizes the lack of sportive culture among Indians. What we do is always rail against lack of facilities, infrastructure and the knowhow. Poorest nations in this world fared better than India in all the olympics. we only watch telly and imagine that one day India will be among the sporting nations like China, Japan, USA , Russia.  How r we gonna accomplish this task?  One way to accomplish this is to train, coach at an More >

Strategic SMEs- business Sylloge way

The shape of small manufacturers is tuned by the weight of big giants. The truth comes either as a contract manufacturers or as suppliers to big retail house, the process is good in terms of short term financial gains but no long term business sense. The focus will always be Cost-leadership to maximize bottom line. The presence of low entry barriers will make the chaos worst and will lead the SMEs business to self destruction which will end up either as shut down or sold out if lucky.

Even no identity and vision creates block for investment from financial institutions and More >

BARE HANDED BABA story poem

The bare handed Baba was so called as

He never carried anything with him. He

Did not welcome any company in travel.

He didn’t store food for tomorrow, nor

Was his next meal, any of his concern.

Villagers used to ask him “Baba, is it wrong

To think of tomorrow?” He would reply:

“I don’t know. But this is the way I would

Like to live. I have surrendered myself to

God; and He will take care of my needs”.

Once a rich merchant renounced his wealth

And asked Baba “Can I follow you?” Baba

Said “Don’t follow me. But follow my way

Of life if you can.” Merchant said: “Then

Mylapore Memories – I

Most of us travel a lot. We might have lived in many places, some for a longer period, and some just for short spells. But very few places lodge themselves deep in a sweet niche in your heart, evoking a vibe in you whenever the name crops up. Mylapore has been one such place for me. But the images I carry in my heart, may no longer be tenable, in this changing world. Nevertheless, I like to live in that old world charm.

Amongst our own bloggers, we have a number of them who have a fair affinity to Mylapore – More >
