Is Google God?How many of us would agree that Google has all the answers you looking for, at least most of the times. They hold more than 60 percent of search market share, and it could be a while before anyone catches up.

I came across a websiteChurch of Google – that has listed down points claiming that Google is God. Its gone to the extent of saying that one can pray to Google, and get your prayers answered. The site considers the most popular search engine to be immortal, “Her Algorithms are spread out across many servers, if any of which were taken down or damaged, another would undoubtedly take its place.”

Its not officially affiliated to Google, so it says. And it gives religion a humorous bent. So is Google God? Does it have all the characteristics of being tagged as God.

Consider this, Google is an extremely learned entity which is omnipresent at the same time. So is God. If you have wi-fi then it becomes easy to get your answers from anywhere in the world. It indexes billions of pages and gives the best possible results in a quick span of time.

Church of Google cites an example, “You can quickly find information on alternative cancer treatments, ways to improve your health, new and innovative medical discoveries and generally anything that resembles a typical prayer. Ask Google and She will show you the way…”

The graph below shows the number of times ‘Google’ is searched as compared to ‘God’, ‘Jesus’, ‘Allah’ and ‘Buddha’. An interesting graph, Google is a more recognised term than God? Google trends graphIf you explained the role of Google to someone who lived, a thousand years ago, would they compare its knowledge to the powers of God? That would be quite possible. In today’s day and age, we have become so dependent on the Net, that we feel handicapped if its not there.

At present, we do worship Google, because our blog income largely depends on them. In time of need, we turn to Google. Church of Google also has the 10 Commandments of Google, and few of them are really nice and funny. “Thou shalt not use reciprocal links nor link farms, for I am a vengeful but fair engine and will diminish thy PageRank. The Google Dance shall cometh.”

Another one which is so relevant and much-needed in modern times, “Thou shalt honor thy fellow humans, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or race, for each has invaluable experience and knowledge to contribute toward humankind.”
